The Mexican voice actor Alexis Ortega, known for his work as the Spanish voice actor of Tom Holland’s character of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has died at the age of 38.

The news was confirmed by the World Dubbing News in a statement shared on Instagram offering condolences to Ortega’s family, friends and colleagues. No cause of death has been disclosed yet.

Ortega became the defining voice of Peter Parker for many Spanish speaking fans. He first stepped into the role in Captain America: Civil War and since then, he continued to voice the beloved superhero in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War.

His spirited and passionate performance resonated well with the audience and had an impact on the way that an entire generation of audiences in Latin America came to relate to the young web-slinger. His voice became inextricable from Tom Holland’s portrayal of the iconic Marvel character.

Beyond the universe of Marvel, Ortega made a varied and well-established career of dubbing, lending his talent to great international productions. His work featured Spanish-speaking roles in many movies which include Star Wars: Rogue One, Finding Dory, Big Hero 6, and Cars 3.

His range and adaptability won him some admiration within the industry as he was known for bringing authenticity and emotion to his every performance.

Ortega’s talents did not stop at voice acting though. He also made an appearance on screen in popular Mexican television series. In the case of Luis Miguel: The Series he played Jorge ‘El Burro’ Van Rankin, and in The House of Flowers he played DJ Freddy Limantour.

In the last few years, he has widened his net to digital media, working with YouTube star MrBeast by adding Spanish-language dubbing to his videos, which many people watched.

Since the announcement of his death, an incredible amount of tributes have been paid from fans and fellow voice actors alike. Many have remembered him not only for his versatility and professionalism, but his warmth and dedication to his craft.
