Spotify has announced a major new update that makes song lyrics easier to see while music is being played. The change places lyrics directly on the ‘now playing screen,’ allowing listeners to follow along without opening a separate view.

The feature was first spotted by ‘Reddit’ users and is being rolled out gradually. It shows lyrics one line at a time, in sync with the song as it plays.
How do new lyrics display works?
With the update enabled, lyrics appear beneath the album artwork on the main player screen. Each line changes in sync with the track, offering a similar experience to karaoke-style lyrics but without taking over the full display.
Spotify has kept its existing Lyrics preview, which can still be accessed by swiping up from the Now Playing screen. This larger view is designed for users who prefer to read full verses at once rather than line by line.
For those who prefer the classic player layout, the new lyrics display can be turned off. Users can disable it by tapping the three-dot menu on the Now Playing screen and switching the feature off.

How to access updates in Spotify?
The lyrics change comes as Spotify continues to adjust its app following recent price increases. Earlier this year, the company introduced Prompted Playlists and has been testing other long-requested features, including editable usernames and improved audiobook discovery tools.
The new lyrics display appears to be rolling out gradually, so not all users will see it straight away. Spotify advises keeping the app up to date, though access ultimately depends on when the feature is enabled for each account.

Optional changes and beta testing
Spotify says the lyrics update is optional and designed to give users more choice, rather than replacing existing features. The company is also testing a resize option for the full-screen lyrics view.
Some users have already spotted text resizing controls in the Spotify beta app, particularly on Android. This suggests the company is still refining how lyrics are displayed before rolling the feature out more widely.
