WEB DESK: Pakistani Islamic scholar, Engineer Muhmmad Ali Mirza, said that Pakistan is taking a firmer approach towards religious intolerance.
While speaking in a private media channel, Engineer Mirza said that there had been a noticeable shift in the State’s policy regarding Blasphemy. It was frequently done during the 2017 sit-in, when the religion card was used against us to gain public interest.
The religious scholar cited the statement of Field Marshal Asim Munir that he once said that Pakistan should become a “hard state”. A state that takes tough and decisive action against those who challenge its legitimacy. Today, I can see this statement being put into practice.
He said that recent actions taken by the Government against the individuals and mobs accused of abusing our religion have marked a change in the history of Pakistan.
It is a positive development that the state is now taking action against such terrible acts. Especially in cases where the graves of people are turned into shrines and are used as a source of income, he said.
Moreover, he emphasised that people refusing to reform or improve the blasphemy laws are actually damaging the spirit and purpose of the laws, rather than protecting them.
