Punjab Clarifies Status of Schools and Colleges Closures

status of schools and colleges closures

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said on Monday that all schools across the province will remain open on Tuesday, dismissing social media rumours of a shutdown linked to protests.

The clarification followed confusion among students and parents after demonstrations by the banned political party.

“All schools in Punjab are open tomorrow as per schedule,” the minister stated, adding that officials had seen no province wide security advisory warranting closures.

Minister dispels closure rumours; Monday classes ran normally

Education authorities said public and private institutions in Punjab, including Lahore, operated normally on Monday and will continue regular schedules.

District education officers were instructed to ensure attendance and keep parents informed through official channels to counter misinformation.

Moreover, department also advised schools to review routine safety protocols and coordinate with local administrations.

Noting that any localised adjustments such as staggered dispersal or transport changes should be communicated directly to families.

Traffic curbs after protests caused panic, but operations continue

The protest, which began from Lahore on Friday en route to Islamabad for a demonstration in support of Gaza and Palestine, faced route blockages near Muridke, where protesters clashed with police on Monday before being dispersed, according to officials.

In response, authorities temporarily closed sections of roads and motorways around Lahore and Islamabad, prompting traffic delays and early closures at some Islamabad schools.

Punjab officials stressed these were traffic management measures, not education shutdowns.

Parents were urged to rely on verified government updates for any changes, while the province reiterated that schools remain open and examinations and routine academic activities will proceed as planned.
