The Federal Capital administration has announced a major drive to formally register all online taxi services operating in Islamabad. The move aims to ensure strict action against unregistered taxis and rickshaws and enhance commuter safety.
According to media reports, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) East has been instructed to coordinate with the CEOs of all taxi service companies to initiate the registration process, which will officially begin on Tuesday.
Under the new system, detailed information about drivers and vehicles will be collected and integrated into a digital platform accessible to Islamabad Police.
Once registered, drivers will be required to upload passenger details, including identity card numbers, on the app before taking any ride. Authorities have warned that any driver operating without completing this mandatory registration will face strict action.
The Secretary of the Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has also vowed a crackdown on unregistered rickshaw operators.
In a related development, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has launched the second phase of its lane violation enforcement campaign, targeting heavy vehicles that repeatedly violate designated lanes on major highways. The campaign aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety.
Under the plan, traffic teams are authorized to issue challans, impose heavy fines, and impound vehicles of repeat offenders. ITP officials have issued a stern warning to heavy vehicle drivers to strictly adhere to lane discipline or face legal consequences.
These initiatives reflect the capital’s efforts to modernize transport management, ensure passenger safety, and maintain orderly traffic flow in Islamabad.
