The Punjab government has announced the date for the distribution of electric bikes among students under its electric bike scheme, with free helmets, safety rods and driving training also to be provided.
The electric bike scheme, launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for students, has received a strong response across the province.
According to official figures released by the Punjab chief minister, a total of 1,149,058 students have so far applied for the scheme, including 222,101 female students.
The scheme has been designed to empower young people, promote self-reliance and provide students with an affordable and convenient means of transportation, according to Maryam Nawaz.
Under the current phase, the Punjab government will distribute 100,000 electric bikes among eligible students.
Registration for the scheme began on September 5, 2026, while the deadline for applications has been set for October 4, 2026. The distribution of electric bikes is scheduled to begin in early November 2026.
To reduce the financial burden on students, the government has announced a substantial subsidy on the bikes. Although the market price of an electric bike is Rs199,000, students will pay only Rs109,000.
The remaining amount will be paid in easy monthly instalments over 36 months, with the monthly instalment set at Rs3,028.
Students will not be required to make any down payment. The Punjab government will also bear the costs of registration, insurance and markup.
In addition, students receiving the bikes will be provided with free helmets and safety rods, along with free driving training.
