ISLAMABAD: After the tomato prices escalation, now the sugar prices in the country are continuing to rise making it harder for the public to buy this important commodity.
All government efforts to reduce sugar prices have failed, as the price has increased by up to Rs10 per kilo during the past week. The maximum retail price of sugar has now reached Rs210 per kilo across the country.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the price of sugar in Peshawar rose by Rs10 per kilo in one week. Residents of Peshawar are now paying the highest rate in the country of Rs210 per kilo.
The report said the average national sugar price increased by Rs3.77 per kilo during the week. In Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Bannu, the highest price per kilo is Rs200, while in Karachi it is Rs195.
The Bureau stated that the national average sugar price has now reached Rs188.81 per kilo. Last week, it was Rs185.04 per kilo, and a year ago, the average price stood at Rs134.08 per kilo.
