LAHORE: After two nearly back to back suicide incidents, the University of Lahore has started fencing its balconies to prevent any such future tragic incidents.
According to reports, after the latest tragic incident in which a female student of Pharma-D attempted suicide by jumping off the second floor of her building the university has shut down its campus for indefinite period and has shifted to online classes.
During the one week break, the university administration has started work on taking preventive measures and has started fencing all its balconies.
Last month another student of Pharma-D Awais Sultan committed suicide and passed away and now early this week a female student of the same department also attempted suicide and is stated to be in critical condition.
This has raised alarm bells not only amongst the students and their families but also with the university authorities.
Police are also investigating the latest incident, and according to preliminary findings the 21 year old female student jumped off the building due to private reasons. However the police is including all aspects in their investigation.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran earlier said that there was no pressure on the student of the University of Lahore who tried to commit suicide.
The police questioned the injured student’s classmates as well as the university administration as part of the ongoing investigation, and there is no apparent administrative problem at the university linked to the incident.
According to the DIG, the student may have been facing some form of domestic or personal stress.
