Bollywood actor Sunny Deol recalled his 2019 visit to the Kartarpur Corridor, describing the experience as a very warm welcome from the people of Pakistan.
In an interview, he said he also met Pakistani soldiers during his visit, who asked him not to portray Pakistanis negatively in his films. “I met the soldiers while in Pakistan, who asked me not to make movies portraying Pakistanis negatively. I told them, ‘I’m merely a character.’”
Deol said he received immense love from the people of Pakistan during his visit.
During the interview, he also stressed that civilians should never be targeted and said that everyone loves their own country.
When Deol visited the Kartarpur Corridor, he said that “this is the beginning of peace.”
In 2019, Pakistan opened the Kartarpur Corridor and welcomed thousands of Sikh pilgrims to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.
The corridor is a visa-free border crossing. Indian Sikhs can visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan without a traditional visa, though travellers must still register, obtain prior travel authorization, and carry a valid passport.
All pilgrims who visit the sacred place will have to pay a visitation fee to the Pakistani government. Each pilgrim must pay $20 (PKR5500) to get the necessary permission.
Sunny Deol’s highest-grossing film is the all-time blockbuster action drama Gadar 2 (2023), which grossed approximately ₹687.8 crore worldwide, followed by Border 2 (2026), which earned ₹450.4 crore worldwide.
