The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday ordered to arrange meeting between PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan with his lawyer.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan ordered Barrister Salman Safdar to visit the former prime minister in Adiala Jail as a “friend of the court.”

The bench mentioned the need for a fresh report on Imran Khan’s living conditions in prison, saying that a previous directive from the court’s order dated August 24, 2023, when Khan was detained in Attock Jail, required submission of such a report, which remains relevant.

The court observed that it would be appropriate to obtain an updated report regarding Imran Khan’s living conditions in Adiala Jail.

Barrister Salman Safdar, designated as friend of the court, has been granted access to Imran Khan in jail, including “jail break” facilities, to enable him to submit a written response.

The Supreme Court directed Safdar to file the written report by tomorrow. Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan appeared before the court during the proceedings.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned until the day after tomorrow.

Supreme Court announces big decision on Imran Khan

The Supreme Court of Pakistan yesterday announced a big decision on PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The top court heard the plea seeking an immediate meeting with Imran Khan and rejected the request, stating that no such order could be passed without issuing prior notice to the government.

The request made by PTI senior leader Latif Khosa was dismissed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi. During the hearing, he said that the court could not pass any order regarding a meeting without first issuing notice to the government.

At this, the court issued notice to the government for Tuesday on PTI’s request for a meeting with the PTI founder.

“We are of the view that this case has become ineffective,” the chief justice said.

Imran Khan was brought to PIMS, confirms Atta Tarar

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar earlier confirmed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a brief check-up.

During an informal interaction with a reporter, Atta Tarar revealed that ophthalmologists carried out an examination of Imran Khan at Adiala Jail. They suggested that the former PM should be shifted to PIMS for further assessment and minor medical procedures.

Later, on the recommendation of doctors, Imran Khan was taken to PIMS last Saturday night, the minister added.

Atta Tarar further said that the PTI founder had his eyes examined. After Imran Khan’s written consent, a medical procedure of nearly 20 minutes was carried out and then he was taken back to Adiala Jail with necessary instructions.

The minister revealed that the former PM is fully fit and healthy. All prisoners have access to medical facilities, this is according to the rules, he added.

Imran Khan’s report handed over to family

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar later said that the medical report of jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has been shared with his family.

In a statement posted on X, Attaullah Tarar said the report was prepared by the executive director of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and forwarded to the superintendent of Central Jail Rawalpindi (Adiala), who subsequently handed it over to Khan’s family.

The minister said the matter had earlier been raised after the Leader of the Opposition wrote to the Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif regarding Imran Khan’s medical condition.

He added that PTI leaders had also approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan, seeking a medical examination of Imran Ahmad Niazi, who is currently serving his sentence at Adiala Jail.
