HYDERABAD: A suspected case of monkeypox has been reported in the city of Hyderabad,  Sindh health officials confirmed.

According to the spokesperson, a 28-year-old unmarried man was admitted to hospital on September 30 after showing symptoms of M-pox.

Signs of the disease appeared on his face, neck, and body. The patient has been kept in isolation to stop further spread of the disease amongst others.

Health officials said the patient has a history of infectious diseases and had also recently traveled abroad.

The Sindh government spokesperson added that samples have been sent to the laboratory and tests are under way.

The exact nature of the illness will be confirmed once results are received.

SYMPTOMS OF M-POX

Monkeypox patients usually develop a rash that can appear on the face, mouth, chest, hands, feet, or near the genitals.

The incubation period ranges from 3 to 17 days. During this time, an infected person may not show any symptoms and feel healthy. The rash progresses through different stages, including scabs, before it heals. It may first resemble pimples or blisters and can cause pain or itching.

Other common symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle and back pain
  • Headache
  • Respiratory problems such as sore throat, cough, or nasal congestion

According to the latest update from Islamabad, health authorities have confirmed one new case of monkeypox, with no new deaths. Since the beginning of the outbreak, Pakistan has recorded a total of seven cases.
