Suspicious foreign software found in Islamabad's Safe City network

Suspicious foreign software has been found in Islamabad’s Safe City network. Following the development, the relevant authorities instructed national security agencies to stay alert.

The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (CERT) of Pakistan also directed immediate audit and strict monitoring of software and hardware. The authorities are investigating the issue regarding suspicious foreign software in the Safe City network.

Following reports of suspicious foreign software being used in the Islamabad Safe City project, authorities have gone on high alert.

According to the media reports, authorities have decided to investigate the issue properly, and relevant officials will scan all software and hardware used in the country’s major infrastructure to maintain security.

National CERT issued advisory

The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (CERT) issued an advisory related to suspicious foreign software in the Safe City Project and made an audit necessary for software and hardware. The official will investigate all the departments of the project, including logistics and supply chain.

According to the advisory, software testing has been directed to be completed within one week, and hardware testing must be finished within two weeks. In case of any malfunction or suspicious activity, the affected hardware should be immediately isolated.

 After that, the evidence will be preserved, and the vendor will be blacklisted.

According to the National CERT, the non-transparent vendors, insecure logistics, and uncertified software can pose serious threats to state security.

Suspicious foreign software issue will be investigated

The authorities also confirmed that the issue related to suspicious foreign software in Islamabad’s Safe City Project will be investigated properly, and strict action will be taken against those responsible.
