Deputy Commissioner issues security alert for Swat educational institutions

The Deputy Commissioner of Swat has issued a threat alert for all educational institutions in all parts of the district and asked the administrations to tighten security arrangements in view of the prevailing situation.

According to an official letter that was issued on Tuesday, universities, colleges and schools, especially those for girls have been put on high alert following reports of incidents against educational institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

The letter directed administrations to take other precautionary steps to protect students and staff from potential harm.

All educational institutions all over Swat have been directed to take additional security precautions and also immediately report any suspicious activity to the concerned authorities.

The alert has focused on strict surveillance of the entry and exit points, as well as increased surveillance of internal and external routes.

The deputy commissioner ordered institutions to guarantee the protection of male and female students and keep communications active at all times. Administrations have also been directed to keep an effective liaison with law enforcement agencies for enhancing overall vigilance.

Copies of the threat alert have been forwarded to police and intelligence agencies in order to ensure coordinated and effective security arrangements.

Officials said communication between the district administration, the educational institutions and the security agencies has been stepped up to further improve the preparedness and avoid any unwanted incident.

The measures are preventive in nature and tend to try and maintain safe learning environment across Swat stressed the administration of the district. Authorities have appealed to all the institutions to strictly follow the instructions in the interest of public safety.

Educational institutions across the district continue to be on high alert as officials continue to make efforts to protect students and staff and ensure that educational activities continue without delay.
