T20 WC: Pakistan possible playing XI unveiled

Pakistan is likely to make a significant change to their lineup in the high-stakes showdown against New Zealand in the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup on Saturday, with both teams intensifying preparations in Colombo.

According to the reports of an international media outlet, the probable playing XI includes captain Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, Babar Azam, Usman Khan, Shadab Khan, Muhammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Abrar Ahmed, Salman Mirza and Usman Tariq.

The inclusion of Usman Tariq is seen as a strategic move, with team management valuing his ability to contribute in both attacking and defensive roles.

Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson expressed confidence in the team’s preparation ahead of the Super 8 clash. Speaking at a press conference in Colombo, he said that the squad is fully prepared and each player clearly understands his assigned role.

Hesson acknowledged New Zealand batter Mark Chapman’s strong record against Pakistan but stressed that every match presents different challenges. “We are not focusing on any single player in a particular way. Skills and preparation are what ultimately determine the outcome,” he said.

The coach also explained the decision to bat Babar Azam at number four, stating that it aligns with the team’s tactical requirements. “Babar may not play aggressive shots in the power play, but he brings stability to the middle order, especially when the team is under pressure,” Hesson noted.

Hesson emphasised that team decisions are being made with balance in mind. He highlighted the versatility of Usman Tariq, stating he is effective in both attacking and defensive roles.

He also praised Mohammad Nawaz for his excellent performances over the past year and noted that Shadab Khan has performed well since making his return. The head coach maintained that the best possible team has been selected for every match.
