Scotland produced a commanding performance to defeat Italy by 73 runs in the seventh match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at Eden Gardens.
Batting first, Scotland posted the highest total of the tournament so far, scoring 207 for 4, setting Italy a challenging target of 208 runs.
George Munns starred with the bat for Scotland, scoring a brilliant 84 runs, while Italy’s bowling attack saw contributions from Ali Hasan, Grant Stewart, Thomas Draca, and JJ Smuts, who each claimed a wicket.
In reply, Italy’s chase never got going despite a valiant effort from the Minati brothers. Ben Minati scored 52, and Harry Minati added 37 runs. Scotland’s bowlers were relentless, with Michael Leask taking 4 crucial wickets and Mark Watt supporting with 2 more.
Italy, who had won the toss and elected to bowl first, struggled to keep up with the demanding target set by the Scottish side.
Earlier in the tournament, West Indies defeated Scotland by 35 runs, highlighted by Shepherd’s spectacular hat-trick.
Today, the ICC T20 World Cup action continues with Oman facing Zimbabwe at 2:30 pm, followed by Canada taking on South Africa at 6:30 pm.
