The Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, has stated that a coordinated negative information campaign is currently being run against Pakistan through social media platforms.
In a post shared on X, the minister said the campaign has been ongoing for the past several days and is allegedly originating from outside the country.
He stated that the objective of the campaign is to create “deliberate confusion and misinformation” by circulating unverified claims and citing unnamed sources and officials.
According to Tarar, the effort is aimed at undermining Pakistan’s role in promoting sustainable peace in the region.
Tarar claimed that the narrative reflects the frustration of elements opposed to peace, particularly those, in his view, unwilling to acknowledge Pakistan’s efforts in regional stability and its continued actions against foreign-sponsored and abetted terrorism.
He further stated that domestic media outlets and fact-checking platforms have already challenged and debunked the claims being circulated, describing them as propaganda. He added that certain groups, which he referred to as detractors of peace, were behind the campaign and unable to accept Pakistan’s contributions toward peace and counterterrorism efforts.
The minister also praised Pakistani media and social media influencers for their role in identifying and countering what he termed a coordinated misinformation effort, saying they were helping expose “nefarious designs” behind such narratives.
