Tarique Rahman has officially become the Prime Minister of Bangladesh today. He took his oath for the office today. Tarique Rahman belongs to the Bangladesh National Party (BNP), which won the 2026 general elections.
Ahsan Iqbal was the representative of Pakistan in the ceremony.
Leadership and Vision
Led by Tarique Rahman, son of party founder and former president Zia ur Rahman, the BNP returns to power after two decades.
Rahman is now sworn in as prime minister. The party’s manifesto carries the slogan “Bangladesh before all,” signalling a focus on national unity and development.
Governance Reforms
The BNP has pledged to implement the July Charter in full, including the creation of new constitutional bodies and the introduction of a bicameral parliament.
Broader structural reforms are planned in line with commitments made by political parties during the political transition.
Trade and Industry Revival
Reviving closed industries and expanding exports are central to the party’s economic agenda.
The BNP has promised to facilitate foreign investors by ensuring that legally operating companies can repatriate profits within 30 days.
Jobs and Economic Growth
Nearly one million jobs are targeted in the information and communication technology sector. Wages will be indexed to inflation and reviewed every two years.
The party also plans youth-focused technical and language training, merit-based public recruitment, international payment systems, regional e-commerce hubs, and a strengthened “Make in Bangladesh” initiative.
Health and Social Welfare
Public health spending will gradually rise to 5% of GDP, with 100,000 new hires in the sector.
Social plans include a mid-day meal programme, curriculum reforms, improved sports facilities, and welfare initiatives for religious leaders of all faiths.
