4000 teaching jobs announced by Balochistan government

Teaching jobs announced by Balochistan government

The government of Balochistan has announced major vacancies in the education sector. The government has offered 4,000 teaching jobs on a temporary basis to tackle staff shortages in public schools.

Recruitment details

According to Balochistan Secretary of Education Asfandyar Khan Kakar, the recruitment will be carried out under the provincial government’s ‘Academic Excellence Programme’ and will focus on the subjects, including English, mathematics and science.

The teachers will be appointed on an ad hoc basis at the scale of BPS-17.

According to the provincial education department, some schools are operating with a shortage of 70 to 80 per cent in key subjects, making it difficult to deliver a full curriculum.

Kakar added that the new hiring is being conducted to stabilise the system while longer-term reforms are being planned. He said the move would help improve classroom teaching and reduce the burden on existing staff, many of whom are covering multiple subjects.

Opportunities and advantages

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by area, has struggled the most in access to education, particularly in remote districts.

The hiring will provide an advantage to the interior Balochistan districts, border and remote union councils, and to the schools having no subject specialists.

Thousands of schools have faced closures in recent years due to a lack of teachers and staff absences. Many non-functional schools have recently been restored, creating additional demand for teaching staff.

According to the statistics of the Education Management Information System (EMIS) of Balochistan, the schools built in the year between 2022-2023 were only 15,168.

But according to the statistics of the year 2023-24, the number increased to 15,269. The formation of new schools is also said to be one of the key factors for hiring teaching staff.
