Thrill on Wheels: 14th Indus River ‘Jeep Race’ returns to Swabi

The 14th Indus River Water Cross Jeep Race will take place on February 1 at the historic site of Hund, Swabi, along the banks of the Indus River.

The event will be organised jointly by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) and the Frontier 4×4 Club, with approximately 100 four-wheel-drive jeeps expected to participate, according to media reports.

Director General KPCTA Muhammad Usman Mehsud announced this during a meeting attended by Director Administration and Finance Shehryar Mahmood, Director Tourism Muhammad Ali Syed, Deputy Director Events Sanam Bashir, President Frontier 4×4 Club Babar Khan, and other officials.

Speaking on the occasion, DG Tourism Muhammad Usman Mehsud said the Culture and Tourism Authority has been organising the event annually, attracting jeep drivers from Peshawar, Islamabad, and other cities across the country. He said the selection of Hund, Swabi as the venue aims to promote tourism, water sports, and adventure tourism in the province.

He added that the event draws a large number of tourists every year. The Indus River Water Cross Jeep Race will be held in three categories: Open category (0 to 6,000 cc), 0 to 3,000 cc category, and a separate category for women drivers.

On the other hand, preparations are entering their final phase for the 21st International Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally, one of Pakistan’s premier motorsports events. The rally is set to take place from February 11 to 15, 2026, with the opening ceremony scheduled for February 10 in Bahawalpur.

According to officials, activities will begin on February 11 with the registration of participating vehicles, followed by technical inspections, medical examinations, and the drivers’ briefing. Qualifying rounds for all categories will be held on February 12 at Dilwash Stadium in Derawar.

The competition phase will start on February 13, featuring the first races in the men’s and women’s prepared categories. The stock category race is scheduled for February 14 and will conclude with a cultural night. On the final day, February 15, the second rounds of the men’s and women’s categories will be held alongside dirt bike, quad, and truck races.
