Two elderly people were found dead with their throats slit inside a house in North Karachi, police said on Wednesday.

According to police officials, the bodies of an elderly couple were discovered at their home near Bibi Amina Park within the jurisdiction of Sir Syed Police Station.

The victims were identified as Muhammad Yamin and his wife, Nafisa, both aged between 65 and 70. The couple had reportedly moved back to Pakistan from Canada some time ago.

Police said evidence was being collected from the crime scene as part of the investigation. Rescue officials said the bodies appeared to have sharp-edged weapon injuries to their necks.

The incident comes a day after the bodies of five members of a family were found inside a house in a private housing society in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Hadeed area.

The victims were identified as 30-year-old Shahzaib, his 28-year-old wife, Saba, their daughters Shamaila, 20, Aizal, five, and Arya, three.

According to Malir Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, police recovered a pistol from the scene and a handwritten note, believed to be a suicide note, from Shahzaib’s pocket.

Initial investigations suggested that severe financial difficulties may have prompted the incident. Police suspect that the children were poisoned before the suspected suicide.

Police are investigating both incidents to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
