The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has denied claims on social media regarding TikTok being banned in Pakistan.

PTA stated the viral notice being shared online is fake. It also advised people not to believe or share unverified information.

The clarification came on Thursday (today) after a document claiming that TikTok had been banned across Pakistan began spreading on social media.

The fake document claimed that the government had decided to block TikTok because of concerns about national security, public safety and the protection of young people.

It also claimed that internet service providers had been ordered to block access to TikTok immediately.

The notice caused confusion among people who use TikTok to watch videos, create content and connect with others.

However, the PTA confirmed that the notice was fake and that no nationwide ban on TikTok had been announced.

The authority asked people not to share such notices without checking whether they are real. It warned that false information could cause unnecessary confusion.

The PTA also advised people to visit its official website and verified social media accounts for accurate information about internet services and online platforms.

TikTok has faced restrictions in Pakistan before because of concerns about inappropriate content.

The app was first banned in October 2020. The ban was later lifted after TikTok promised to improve how it monitored content on the platform.

In November 2021, the PTA again allowed access to TikTok after the company gave further assurances that it would take action against inappropriate content.

At present, the PTA has not announced any new nationwide ban on TikTok in Pakistan.
