Tomorrow last day to file income tax return: FBR

Will FBR extend the income tax filing date?

Those who have not filed their income tax returns, tomorrow (September 30) will be the last date to file taxes, according to the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR).

In a statement issued on Monday, the FBR has denied any extension in the deadline for filing income tax returns.

Taking notice of news circulating on social media, that the date of filing income tax might be extended due to the recent floods the FBR said, “These reports are false, baseless, and misleading”.

It clarified that there will be no extension in the deadline for filing income tax returns. Those who fail to file by the due date will be declared late filers and penalised under the law, the FBR said.

The authority has urged taxpayers to file their returns honestly before the final date of September 30, 2025.

The body noted that the majority of taxpayers live in areas not affected by floods, and they have been given sufficient time to fulfil their national obligation.

The claim of slowness in the FBR’s IRIS system was also dismissed as baseless. The platform is fully functional and operating smoothly, FBR said.

It added that taxpayers can easily file their returns using the new simplified income tax return form.

In case of severe hardship, taxpayers can apply for a maximum extension of 15 days with the approval of the relevant committee, as provided by law, as per the FBR statement.
