Toshakhana-II case: Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi challenge conviction

Imran Khan challenges conviction in Toshakhan-II case

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have challenged the verdict in the Toshakhana-II case.

A special court had handed down 17-year prison terms to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana-II case relating to allegations that the couple illegally kept a Bulgari jewellery set received from the Saudi Crown Prince during an official visit to Saudi Arabia.

Appeals against the conviction of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been filed in the Islamabad High Court through lawyer Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry to challenge the verdict in the Toshakhana-II case.

The Islamabad High Court has assigned diary number 24561 to Bushra Bibi’s appeal, while diary number 24560 has been assigned to Imran Khan’s appeal.

The appeal filed in the court has been taken a position that the court relied on the statement of Inamullah Shah, who had been dismissed. The court relied on the statement of an approver, which could not be done. The prosecution failed to prove the case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

The petition filed in the court has sought to quash the decision of the Toshakhana II case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, arguing that multiple punishments cannot be imposed for the same crime. The Special Central Court did not have the jurisdiction to hear the case.

It was further stated in the petition that Sohaib Abbasi was illegally made an approver.

The Bulgarian set of Toshakhana was kept by the former ruling couple as per the rules, the petition stated. The case was registered without investigation and the couple is being subjected to political vendetta

It was also argued that the applicant does not fall under the definition of a government servant.

The petition also sought to schedule the appeals for early hearing.
