Tourists throng to northern areas

ISLAMABAD: With the closure of schools for winter vacations and a public holiday on December 25 on account of Quaid-e-Azam day and Christmas large number of tourists have started thronging the northern areas of the country to enjoy the snow fall and the scenic beauty.

Murree and other hill stations witnessed a heavy rush as snowfall and cold weather enhanced the scenic charm. Families, youngsters and adventure seekers thronged popular destinations to enjoy snow, food and winter activities.

Due to the influx, Murree traffic police has devised a comprehensive traffic management plan to facilitate tourists.

A police spokesperson said additional traffic personnel have been deployed at sensitive points to ensure smooth traffic flow. CTO Murree Imran Razaq is personally supervising operations while remaining in the field.

Traffic authorities also issued a safety advisory for tourists. Visitors are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during snowfall and strictly follow traffic rules. Motorists were advised to use fully equipped four-wheel-drive vehicles, keep fuel tanks full and carry warm clothing.

The tourists have been asked to avoid over speeding, maintain proper tyre pressure, do not create double lanes and park only in designated parking areas.

Roads to Naran closed

Despite the road closures to Naran due to heavy snowfall, domestic tourism saw a major boost in Swat and other northern areas.

Heavy snowfall in Malam Jabba,Kalam, Swat, Chitral and Nathiagali attracted large crowds eager to enjoy skiing and snow games.
