Toyota Indus Motors has stopped production of the current version of the Corolla in Pakistan. This decision has been taken to pave the way for the new updated model, which is expected to be launched soon.
Why did Toyota discontinue the current Corolla?
Car manufacturers generally stop production of an old model before introducing a new model or facelift. This news is further supported by reports and pictures that surfaced online a few days ago, showing a new Corolla based on the 11th generation.
However, Toyota officials have so far only confirmed the discontinuation of the old model.
What was seen in the spy shots?
The leaked pictures show several changes. The car’s front grille is thinner and has a more modern design compared to before, while both the front and rear bumpers appear in a new design. New-style alloy wheels were also seen, along with front parking sensors that were not present in the old model.
However, pictures of the car’s interior were not clear, so the complete features will only become known after the official unveiling.
Third facelift of the Corolla lineup
If this updated model is launched, it will be the third facelift of the 11th-generation Corolla in Pakistan.
First facelift (2017)
The first facelift, introduced in August 2017, included a chrome grille, LED headlights with DRLs, new tail lamps, and dual airbags.
Second facelift (2021)
In January 2021, the second facelift was introduced under the name “Corolla X,” featuring a black interior, bumper lips, and a body kit.
Third facelift (expected)
The expected third facelift is likely to feature a new front grille, new alloy wheels, front parking sensors, and minor changes to the bumpers.
The discontinuation of the current model by Toyota Indus and the emergence of the new pictures suggest that the third facelift is very close. However, Toyota Pakistan has not yet made any official announcement regarding its launch or teaser.
The most important thing is that the global market has moved to the 12th-generation Corolla since 2018, but Toyota currently has no intention of bringing the 12th generation to Pakistan. The company has decided to continue with the 11th generation through a facelift.
