Stricter traffic laws in UAE: warning for Pakistani drivers

Stricter traffic laws UAE Pakistani drivers

Following the ongoing road incidents and ignorant behaviour by the drivers, the UAE traffic police have introduced stricter traffic laws. This is also a warning for Pakistani drivers that traffic laws are being enforced more strictly than before. According to official data from Pakistan’s Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE), 52,664 Pakistanis have travelled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on work visas this year.

Many Pakistanis in the UAE work as drivers, delivery riders, or in jobs that require them to travel daily. The police have highlighted a serious issue by saying that distracted driving has become a growing concern, leading to tighter checks and heavier penalties.

Sharjah van crash

In Sharjah, a driver was caught distracted, reportedly by a mobile phone or some other reason, while driving. A recent video released by Sharjah Police showed a black van crashing into a barrier after the driver lost focus for just a few seconds.

According to the UAE Federal traffic laws, whoever is found distracted while driving will face a fine of AED800 and four black points on their licence. The police said even a brief distraction can cause serious accidents.

Officials say the footage is a reminder that modern roads are closely monitored. Smart cameras operate 24/7, making it difficult for violations to go unnoticed.

Abu Dhabi traffic police action

Abu Dhabi Police have also taken action against risky behaviour. In one case, a driver was arrested for livestreaming on social media while driving. The police said the driver was zigzagging through traffic and using the wrong lane to overtake vehicles, putting lives at risk.

Authorities across the UAE have repeated that roads are not a place for social media use or careless driving. Using a phone while driving is treated as a serious offence, and police say there will be zero tolerance for such behaviour.

For Pakistani workers, many of whom depend on driving for their livelihood, traffic violations can carry serious consequences, including fines, licence suspension, or job loss. With stricter enforcement now in place, police say responsible driving is essential to keep roads safe for everyone.
