Public and goods transporters across Pakistan have announced a reduction in fares after a drop in petroleum product prices.
In Lahore, public transport operators have immediately reduced fares by 25 per cent. Several private transport companies have also followed suit, implementing similar 25 per cent reductions. Additionally, fares for Mazda trucks have been decreased by 25 per cent.
Goods transporters have announced an even larger reduction, cutting fares by up to 40 per cent nationwide. According to the President of the Pakistan Goods Transport Association, freight charges across the country have been reduced by Rs40 per unit with immediate effect. He welcomed the government’s decision to lower diesel prices, calling it a positive step for the transport sector.
The fare reductions come after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a decrease in fuel prices, which has also led to a drop in the rates of kerosene oil and light diesel.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol prices have been reduced by Rs11.83 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs366.58 per litre. Diesel prices have seen a major cut of Rs134.81 per litre, with the new rate set at Rs385.54 per litre.
Kerosene oil prices have also been reduced by Rs17.33 per litre, now priced at Rs450.15 per litre, while light diesel oil has been cut by Rs25.31 per litre, bringing its new price to Rs369.72 per litre.
The revised prices of petroleum products came into effect from midnight.
PM Shehbaz announces new petrol price
The Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, on April 10, announced a decrease in both petrol and diesel prices.
As per his latest announcement, the new prices will be in effect from today.
PM Shehbaz said that the subsidy on petrol for bikers will not be lifted.
Shehbaz Sharif added that it is a historic day for Pakistan, and we thank Allah for this.
He stated that the ceasefire between the US and Iran is a significant and historic success of Pakistan.
Trump announces ceasefire between US and Iran
The US President, Donald Trump, announced a ceasefire for two weeks on April 8, 2026.
There will be no strikes in Iran for 14 days, said the US President.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump said that based on the conversation held with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.
