Transporters urge government to implement 15-day diesel price mechanism

Goods transporters have rejected the latest increase in diesel prices and urged the government implement its earlier agreement regarding a 15-day diesel price adjustment.

The Goods Transport Owners Association said frequent changes in diesel prices are creating difficulties for the transport sector.

Association President Muhammad Awais Chaudhry said the government had signed a written agreement with transporters under which the mechanism for changing diesel prices was supposed to be revised.

According to Chaudhry, the government should not make daily changes in diesel prices and fulfil its commitment to introduce a 15-day pricing period.

He explained that frequent increases and decreases in diesel rates make it difficult for transporters to manage fares. Transport companies cannot immediately revise the rates they charge customers.

Concerns highlighted by Goods Transport Owners Association

  • Diesel prices should be adjusted after every 15 days instead of frequent or daily changes
  • Transporters need a stable period to calculate freight and transportation charges
  • Sudden increases or reductions in fuel prices make immediate fare adjustments difficult
  • Government should implement the written agreement reached with transporters during their strike

The demand follows an agreement reached between the government and goods transporters during their recent strike. Transport representatives are now asking authorities to follow the commitments made during those negotiations.

The association maintains that a predictable diesel pricing schedule would help reduce uncertainty across the transport industry and allow businesses to respond more effectively to changes in fuel costs.
