How did Trump and Asim Munir become friends?

Field Marshal Asim Munir, Trump meeting boosted US-Pak ties

The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, surprised the world.

At one occasion, Trump lauded him as a “good man” and described Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif as a “great leader.”

During the show Khabar aur Tajzia on Hum News, Sajid N. Tarar explained that both Trump and Munir share a similar sense of commitment to their countries.

“It is a partnership of philosophies,” he added.

He said that Trump respects people who are strong and fair. He also believed that Pakistan’s victory over India changed Trump’s perception of Pakistan.

Back in June, Trump hosted the army chief at the White House.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said Trump hosted Munir after he called for the president to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for preventing a nuclear war between India and Pakistan.

Trump said he was honoured to meet Munir and that they had discussed Iran, which he said Pakistan knew better than most. Trump told reporters he had thanked Munir for ending the war with India.

“Two very smart people decided not to keep going with that war; that could have been a nuclear war,” Trump said.
