President Donald Trump has responded immediately after the US Supreme Court struck down the presidential measures related to tariff increases and announced the imposition of a 10% global tariffs on all countries including India.
According to sources, President Trump has signed an executive order regarding the new tariffs, under which the 10% new tariff will take effect immediately.
President Trump says that all previous trade agreements, including the tariffs, will remain in place with India, but the method of implementing them is being changed.
Trump strongly criticised the court decision and called it shameful. He said that some judges are working under political influence and the court has come under the influence of foreign interests.
According to Trump, “we are not paying tariffs to India, but India is paying tariffs to us. This is a fair agreement and is in contrast to the previous system.”
This constitutes a just agreement and stands in contrast to the former system. Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, President Trump’s action is regarded as a significant shift in US trade policy.
The introduction of a 10 percent global tariff is anticipated to affect global markets, as well as imports and exports, while potential responses from various nations are also expected.
The US administration claims that these actions are being implemented to safeguard domestic industries, jobs, and economic interests. However, critics argue that this could escalate global trade tensions.
Trump imposes 10 percent global tariff
The President of the United States reiterated his claim of stopping eight wars, stating that he effectively utilised tariffs to restore America’s greatness and to conclude eight conflicts, including the one between India and Pakistan.
Earlier, Trump declared the imposition of an extra 10 percent global tariff. “Effective immediately, all National Security TARIFFS, Section 232 and existing Section 301 TARIFFS, will remain in effect and fully enforced. Today, I will sign an Order to implement a 10% GLOBAL TARIFF, under Section 122, in addition to our standard TARIFFS currently being applied,” Trump stated.
When questioned about whether the United States would be left defenseless following the Supreme Court’s decision to annul tariffs, Trump responded, “No, because we are approaching this differently and we are employing strategies that some believed we should have utilized from the outset but the ultimate outcome will yield us greater revenue.”
