President Donald Trump hosted New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House, where the two spoke to reporters from inside the Oval Office.
Trump told journalists “we’ve just had a great meeting”, adding that “we love this city of ours” as he congratulated Mamdani on his recent election victory.
The president said the discussion focused on housing, food, and affordability, issues he described as central to New Yorkers’ daily lives.
He stressed that his administration would work with the incoming mayor on economic pressures facing residents.
“Anything I do is going to be good for New York,” Trump said, signalling support for the city’s new leadership while also highlighting his own role in shaping policy.
Donald Trump said that the topic of arresting Netanyahu was not discussed during his meeting with Zohran Mamdani at oval office today. He clarified that the issue never came up at any point in their conversation.
When asked if he would feel comfortable living in New York City “under a Mamdani administration,” Trump replied, “Yes, I would. I really would, especially after the meeting. Absolutely.”
Reporters asked President trump on his repeated remarks on Mamdani calling him Communist. Explaining his position, Trump remarked, “He’s got views that are little out there,” adding that change is inevitable and that his own opinions have shifted as well. “We all change.”
