On Thursday, the United States President Donald Trump repeated his threats against Mexico. The President has alleged that cartels are running Mexico and indicated the possibility of military action against them.

The 47th POTUS, in conversation with Fox News’s Sean Hannity, said that the US is going to start hitting land with regard to the cartel. He repeated that cartels are running Mexico.

These remarks are a repetition of his military threats against Latin American countries. The recent results of these threats were the conduct of the US forces’ operation Absolute Resolve in Venezuela. The operation was successful and resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

The Mexican government or any official is yet to comment on the latest threats.

However, the Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum, criticised the US capture of Maduro, calling it an intervention and saying that it has never brought democracy. She further stated that it has never generated lasting well-being or stability for any country.

She stated that the state of Mexico categorically rejects intervention in the internal affairs of any country.

The unilateral military action drew criticism from several other countries. The countries include China, Russia and Brazil. These countries slammed the capture of the Venezuelan President and called the operation a blatant violation of international law.

Other than Mexico, Trump has also said that a military operation in Colombia sounds good to him. However, after that, he had a telephonic conversation with the Colombian President Gustavo Petro, and tensions subsided. The Colombian President is now invited to the White House by Trump for further talks.

According to the Colombian President Petro, he presented a plan of forming an alliance to harness the clean energy potential of Latin America. He further added that drilling for oil has negative impacts on the environment and emphasised the need to adopt clean energy.
