US-Iran war: Trump seeks $200 billion in military funds

The White House is requesting an additional $200 billion (£150 billion) military funds for the conflict in Iran, with President Donald Trump stating that this funding is essential to replenish ammunition and other resources that have been exhausted due to the ongoing war and prior assistance to other nations.

“This is a highly unstable world,” Trump said on Thursday.

“We want to have vast amounts of ammunition, which we have right now, we have a lot of ammunition, but it was taken down by giving so much to Ukraine”, the US President added.

When questioned about the necessity for the additional billions for the war, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth informed reporters: “It takes money to kill bad guys.”

The Pentagon has informed lawmakers that the war incurred a cost of $11.3 billion military funds for the US in just the first week. The conflict is set to enter its fourth week on Saturday.

It is important to note that the request for $200 billion is supplementary to the department’s yearly budget of $838.7 billion, which received Congressional approval in January.

On the other hand, Congress has sanctioned $188 billion in financial assistance for Ukraine following the Russian invasion in February 2022.

As of last December, approximately $110 billion had been used up, as reported by the special inspector general overseeing the funding.

Trump claims the US defeated Iranian leadership

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that Iran’s ballistic missile and drone assaults have decreased by 90 percent during his comments in Washington on Monday.

Additionally, he mentioned that more than 100 Iranian naval vessels have been eliminated.

During a press conference in Washington, Trump stated that Iran’s defence systems are being rapidly destroyed.
