Recent survey by major US media outlets has shown that Americans are becoming increasingly concerned about the mental and physical fitness of President Donald Trump, with a good number of Americans doubting whether he is fit to effectively perform presidential duties.
According to the poll, which was conducted by The Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos, 59 per cent of the participants think that Trump lacks the mental acuity to lead the country.
This is an indication of a high degree of distrust amongst the populace towards his ability to cope with the complicated and demanding tasks involved in the presidency.
Based on the results, most of the participants raised doubts about the overall fitness of Trump to hold the position of Commander-in-Chief due not only to physical but also to cognitive issues.
Numerous respondents recommended that the position needs some degree of stamina, clarity and decision-making skill that he might no longer be able to demonstrate with the same regularity.
In spite of these worries, another element that the survey brings to our attention is the relatively high number of people who remain in their support.
Approximately forty per cent of Americans believed in the leadership capabilities of Trump, and that he is still fully equipped to lead and carry out the duties of the post.
In the meantime, about one per cent of the respondents opted not to give their opinion on the issue.
Interestingly enough, Trump himself has more than once dismissed such concerns. In media talks, he has always stated that he feels in great health, and he often says that he feels as young and active as he was decades ago.
His comments stand in stark contrast to the views and opinions reflected in the survey, highlighting a clear divide between what the people think is his condition and what the president thinks is his condition.
