Trump warns allies, says US may not back them in future

Trump warns allies against US support

President Donald Trump has warned its allies the United Kingdom and France that the USA may not support them in future, expressing frustration over their refusal to join military action against Iran.

In posts on Truth Social, Trump criticised France for not allowing aircraft carrying military supplies to Israel to pass through its airspace. He said France had been “very unhelpful” and added that the USA would remember its stance.

In a separate message, he targeted the United Kingdom, linking its energy concerns to the Strait of Hormuz situation. Trump suggested Britain should rely on US fuel supplies or secure its own access, urging allies to “learn how to fight for themselves.”

His remarks came as tensions remain high over the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route. Since the conflict began in late February, Iran has largely blocked the passage, disrupting oil and gas shipments from the region. Several tankers have also come under attack.

Trump also criticised NATO, calling its reluctance to support US actions against Iran a “foolish mistake.” He questioned whether the alliance would stand by Washington in times of need.

Despite tough rhetoric, Trump has alternated between signalling possible negotiations with Tehran and threatening further escalation. He recently warned of expanding strikes to Iran’s civilian energy infrastructure if the strait is not reopened.

Meanwhile, Iran continues to assert control over the waterway, with reports of attacks on oil tankers near regional ports, raising fears of prolonged disruption to global energy supplies.
