Pakistan has passed a US proposal to Iran for talks to mediate amid the ongoing conflict between Iran, Israel and the US. The venue for the talks could be Pakistan or Turkey, an Iranian official told Reuters on Wednesday.
An Iranian official, speaking anonymously, said that Tehran is willing to engage in dialogue despite having publicly denied holding talks with the US and Israel.
The Iranian official didn’t reveal the details of the proposal that Pakistan delivered. However, several media outlets, including Reuters, have also reported earlier about the 15-point US proposal.
What could be the venue – Pakistan or Turkey?
The source said Turkey had also “helped to end the war and either Turkey or Pakistan was under consideration as the venue for such talks”.
Oil prices fell, and stock markets recovered on Wednesday after reports said the US sent a 15-point plan to Iran, raising hopes of ending nearly four weeks of war that has killed thousands and disrupted global energy supplies. A source confirmed to Reuters on Tuesday that the plan had been sent to Iran.
Turkey playing a key role in ending war in Gulf
Earlier, Pakistan has offered Iran and the US to host talks for de-escalating the war in the Middle East. However, Turkey is also playing a key role in ending the war between Iran, Israel and the US.
A senior politician from Turkey told Reuters that Ankara is playing an important role in ending the conflict between Iran and the US.
However, there is no confirmation regarding talks between Iran and the US and the venue is also not decided yet. At the same time, the Iranian ambassador in Pakistan said that Iran is not in direct contact with the US regarding talks to end the war.
