The United Kingdom has announced new visa restrictions that will affect students from four countries, including Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan.
Student visas for individuals in these nations will be closed, according to the British Home Office.
Officials said the decision follows a notable increase in asylum applications. For the first time in the UK, an “emergency brake” mechanism has been applied to control the situation.
In addition to student visa closures, work visas for citizens of Afghanistan are also being terminated as part of the new measures.
The Home Office said the move is aimed at managing migration pressures and protecting the integrity of the immigration system.
Qatar extending expired entry visa
In a parallel move, the Qatar Ministry of Interior announced automatic extensions for all entry visas that have expired or are about to expire. The extension will be valid for a month from February 28, 2026.
Authorities said the process will be handled electronically via approved systems. There will be no charges, and applicants will not need to visit offices to apply.
However, people who had visa violations before February 28 are required to clear all overstay fines first. Once the fines are paid, the extension and exemption from the fee will apply from the same date.
The ministry said it will continue monitoring the situation to ensure legal stability for residents and visitors.
Citizens and residents have also been advised to stay indoors, limit movement to emergencies, avoid exposed areas, and follow official updates.
Gulf Airlines alter flight operations
Tensions in the Middle East, including those involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, have caused hundreds of flight cancellations. Airfares have also increased.
Saudi Arabian Airlines confirmed flights remain stable, but added longer flights using Boeing 777 aircraft are being used to avoid restricted air space.
Etihad Airways has resumed operations with limited services.
