UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemns Islamabad suicide attack

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the deadly suicide attack that occurred in Pakistan’s capital on Tuesday. In a statement released by his office, the UN chief expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of life and reiterated his firm stance against acts of violence and terrorism.

“The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the reported suicide attack, and he extends his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a full recovery to those injured,” stated Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Aziz Haq, in response to a question during the regular noon briefing at UN Headquarters in New York.

The attack took place outside the district and sessions court building in Islamabad’s G-11 area, leaving 12 people dead and injuring 36 others.

The Secretary-General’s statement reiterated the UN’s commitment to combating terrorism worldwide. “The Secretary-General condemns acts of violence and terrorism in the strongest terms,” the spokesperson confirmed, underlining that the global body stands united in the fight against such heinous acts.

Guterres also called for a thorough investigation into the attack. “He reiterates that all perpetrators of terrorism must be held accountable, and he calls for a full investigation,” the spokesperson added, emphasizing the need for justice in the aftermath of such acts of violence.

As the investigation continues, the UN has stressed the importance of bringing those responsible to justice to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
