Unannounced load shedding spreads across Karachi

Karachi is once again grappling with an intensifying power crisis, as unannounced load shedding continues to spread across the city despite the arrival of a new administration at K-Electric. Citizens have expressed frustration, saying the new management has so far failed to bring any relief from prolonged outages.

According to reports, K-Electric has quietly increased the duration of load shedding in multiple areas. In several parts of the city, residents are now facing an additional 4 to 6 hours of power cuts, significantly disrupting daily routines, business activities, and essential services.

What has caused even greater concern is that areas previously declared exempt from load shedding are no longer spared. Under the pretext of maintenance and repair work, electricity outages lasting between 3 to 5 hours are being carried out in these localities.

Affected Areas in Karachi

Affected areas include North Karachi, Shadman Town, Society, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Gulshan-e-Maymar. Residents in these neighbourhoods report facing 2 to 4 hours of unexpected outages, despite being categorised as load-shedding-free zones.

Meanwhile, areas already subjected to regular load shedding are now experiencing even longer power cuts, ranging from 3 to 5 additional hours. The situation has raised serious questions about the utility company’s ability to manage demand and maintain infrastructure, especially during rising temperatures.

Citizens demand immediate action

Citizens have voiced their anger on social media, demanding accountability and immediate action. Many argue that repeated promises of improvement have failed to translate into real change on the ground.

As Karachi continues to endure extended outages, pressure is mounting on K-Electric and relevant authorities to address the worsening crisis and provide a sustainable solution to the city’s persistent energy challenges.
