The US Consulate General in Lahore held a “Freedom 250” reception to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence and celebrate the long-standing relationship between the United States and Pakistan.
Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan attended the event along with government officials, lawmakers, business representatives, academics, journalists, civil society members and diplomats.
The ceremony began with the national anthems of Pakistan and the United States. A jazz performance later added an American cultural touch to the event.
US Consul General Stetson Sanders said the two countries were building their relationship through innovation, creativity, connectivity and new economic opportunities.
He highlighted US investment and economic cooperation in Pakistan, including technology initiatives and support for local talent. He also mentioned the Google Chromebook assembly line in Haripur and recalled the achievements of Pakistani technology pioneer Arfa Karim.
Sanders also cited Sialkot’s production of FIFA World Cup footballs as an example of the strong commercial links between Pakistan and the United States.
According to Sanders, trade between the two countries reached $8.5 billion in 2025. He said stronger trade and wider access to markets could create more opportunities for future cooperation.
“Punjab has some of the finest universities in Pakistan, full of ambitious, optimistic young people,” Sanders said, expressing hope for continued growth in US-Pakistan relations.
The event also displayed life-size replicas of Philadelphia’s Liberty Bell. Pakistani artists decorated the replicas as part of projects supported through the US Consulate’s Lincoln Corner network.
The “Freedom 250” programme is a year-long initiative by US diplomatic missions around the world to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and showcase American culture, values and international partnerships.
