The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) has officially opened the application period for the 2027 Fulbright Student Program, encouraging Pakistani students to submit their applications by April 1, 2026.
This prestigious scholarship offers fully funded opportunities that cover tuition, living costs, insurance, and round-trip airfare for graduate studies in the United States, making it one of the most important educational exchange initiatives for emerging leaders in Pakistan.
The USEFP Fulbright scholarship program provides funding for tuition, living expenses, insurance, and travel for graduate studies in the United States in 2027.
The program evaluates a broad definition of merit, considering academic performance, test scores, leadership potential, and a commitment to contributing to Pakistan’s development.
Jointly funded by the US and Pakistani governments, the scholarship is available to students from all fields, with a special focus on those studying science, technology, artificial intelligence, trade, economics, and natural resource management.
However, clinical medicine is excluded, although applications related to non-clinical public health are encouraged.
Requirements for Masters and PhD programs
For the Master’s degree program, candidates who qualify must possess either a four-year Bachelor’s degree or a combination of a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree that totals 16 years of formal education from an accredited institution.
Recent graduates are encouraged to submit their applications, with the exception of those applying for the MBA and Public Policy/Administration programs, who must have a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
For the PhD degree program, eligible candidates should hold a Master’s, M.Phil, or an equivalent degree (which requires at least 18 years of formal education) from an accredited university.
It is strongly preferred that applicants have experience in teaching, research, or the public sector within Pakistan.
Both the Master’s and PhD programs accept candidates from all academic disciplines, with the exception of clinical medicine.
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE General) is mandatory for all applicants. According to the new scoring system, a minimum score of 145 is required in each section of the GRE, with a higher score expected in the section most relevant to the applicant’s field of study.
Applicants must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in both spoken and written English. Those selected will be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
All successful candidates must sign a contract with USEFP, and for those who are awarded a PhD, a bond with the HEC will be required, which obligates them to return to Pakistan immediately following their program in the U.S. and to serve the country for a duration equivalent to the length of their scholarship. This contract is redeemable on a year-for-year basis, with a minimum commitment of two years.
For the USEFP Fulbright Scholarship 2027, applications can be submitted through the official portal at www.usefp.org.
