US Vice President JD Vance has said significant progress has been achieved regarding the situation with Iran, expressing optimism about recent diplomatic developments.
Speaking on the matter, Vance stated that the United States and its allies have halted attacks related to the conflict with Iran, describing the move as part of broader efforts to de-escalate tensions.
He added that former US President Donald Trump had also recently stated that Washington had achieved its military objectives concerning Iran.
Speaking to university students in Hungary, US Vice President JD Vance described the ceasefire as a “fragile truce” and issued a pointed warning to Tehran ahead of negotiations due to begin in Islamabad later this week.
“If the Iranians are willing in good faith to work with us, I think we can make an agreement,” Vance said. “If they’re gonna lie, if they’re gonna cheat, they’re not gonna be happy.”
He said President Trump had instructed the entire negotiating team, including Secretary of State Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff, to “negotiate in good faith,” but warned that the US retained “military, diplomatic, and extraordinary economic leverage” if Iran did not reciprocate.
Vance also said Trump had told him “the Iranians are better negotiators than they are fighters,” and pointed to divisions within Iran over the deal, noting that while some officials had “said the right things,” others were “lying about the nature of the ceasefire” on social media.
Earlier, PM Shehbaz Sharif posted on his social media platform X about the recent peace deal between the US and Iran.
He said, “With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.”
Further talking about the Islamabad talks, he added, “We earnestly hope that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in the coming days!”
PM Shehbaz said that both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability.
US President Donald Trump
The US President, Donald Trump, announced a ceasefire for two weeks. There will be no strikes in Iran for 14 days, said the US President.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump said that based on the conversation held with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.
Iran accepts ceasefire
The Islamic Republic of Iran has also reportedly accepted the offer of a two-week ceasefire.
A post on X said that Iran accepted the ceasefire deal after China persuaded it.
The post said, “A last-minute push by China helped persuade Iran to accept Pakistan’s two-week ceasefire proposal, with the truce ultimately approved by Mojtaba Khamenei, according to NYT, citing three Iranian officials.”
Reacting to the ceasefire, the world praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and CDF Field Marshal Asim Munir’s role, saving the lives of innocent humans and global economies.
