US President Donald Trump has stated on social media that, despite lengthy negotiations in Islamabad, the most important issue is that the nuclear program should not be obstructed. He said that the overall negotiations were very positive and that many points were agreed upon; however, the lack of progress on the nuclear issue became a major obstacle.
The US President added that the US Navy, which he described as the best navy in the world, would act to stop any ship attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz.
He further stated that there should eventually be a situation in which all ships can move freely. However, he claimed that Iran has created uncertainty by suggesting that there may be mines in parts of the Strait, which has disrupted safe navigation.
President Trump also alleged that Iran is using the current situation and international pressure for financial gain, which he described as “global extortion.” He made it clear that the United States and other countries would not accept such pressure.
He added that American forces will begin removing and destroying landmines in the Strait of Hormuz, and that any attack from Iran will be met with a strong response. According to him, the method of resolving the situation in Iran is well known; however, current policies have caused significant damage.
President Trump also said that he was briefed by Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner. He praised the leadership of Pakistan, especially the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, calling them extraordinary leaders who played an important role in preventing a major potential conflict.
The American President added that the negotiations began in the morning and continued for nearly 20 hours. He said that although many issues were addressed, Iran’s refusal to abandon its nuclear program remains the biggest obstacle.
According to him, American representatives maintained cordial relations with Iranian officials, including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi, and Ali Bagheri; however, the core disagreements remained unresolved.
He concluded by stating clearly that Iran will not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons and that the United States stands firm on this position.
