The White House has assured that the Iranian national football team will be welcomed and provided with full security during this year’s World Cup in the United States.
Andrew Giuliani, head of the White House World Cup Task Force, told the media at a conference in Texas that despite ongoing tensions, the US expects the Iranian team to participate in the tournament.
He added that it would be a great opportunity for people of Iranian origin in the United States to celebrate their country.
According to media reports, Iran’s group-stage matches are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles and Seattle.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Sports Ministry has banned its national players and teams from participating in competitions in the United States.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump had expressed concerns on the social media platform Truth Social about the safety of the Iranian team’s visit to the US.
Subsequently, Iranian authorities requested that their matches be moved to Mexico; however, the request was rejected by FIFA.
