The consecutive two-month delay in the appointment of the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, has caused administrative problems on the campus.
As per the officials of the university, currently, there is no one to address the matters of students, faculty, and financial affairs of the institution.
VC in Quaid-i-Azam University
The QAU staff said that there is not even an acting VC present at the moment in order to tackle this difficult situation.
More than 1200 degrees are yet to be signed by the next VC, as they cannot be issued without it, said the staff.
A university official added that campus meetings, syndicate meetings, selection board meetings, and several other important meetings could not be scheduled due to the absence of the university’s head.
Problems faced by students
The students of the QAU have raised their concerns about the ongoing situation within the university.
They said that the unavailability of the VC has caused a great impact on their academic and professional career.
One student said, “I completed my graduation last year and now want to apply to a university abroad, but I am unable to get my degree. Our career is at stake. Whenever I contacted my department, they said that until a VC is appointed, degrees can’t be issued.”
The statement made by the student is quite alarming, as their future is at stake with no VC available right now.
Faculty members issues
The visiting staff of various faculties have also complained that they have not been paid yet due to no VC at the campus.
According to the media reports, more than 150 visiting faculty staff have not been paid for the last two years.
The previous VC of Quaid-i-Azam University, Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Akhtar, left his office on February 6, 2026.
He was appointed as the new chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The seat of the vice-chancellor has been empty since then.
