ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued new guidelines for consumers regarding the provision of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services.
According to the PTA, consumers can now directly avail services from licensed VPN providers and will not need to contact the PTA for VPN registration.
The authority has started the process of issuing licenses to companies providing VPN services. The PTA statement said that VPN services will now come under the Class Value Added Services (Data) license.
The PTA said that the licensed companies include Alpha3 Cubic, Zettabyte, Nexium Tech, Vision Tech 360 and UKI Connex Solutions.
According to the authority, safe and legal online connectivity will be promoted through licensed VPN services. The use of VPN will be limited to legitimate and legal purposes only.
The PTA warned that the use of unregistered VPNs can increase cyber risks.
The statement further said that the new system will improve digital security and data protection, aiming to create a transparent and secure digital environment.
The authority expressed hope that the regular provision of VPN services will play an important role in further strengthening national cyber security.
