Wall chalking declared illegal across GB during elections

The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has taken strict notice of violations of the code of conduct during the 2026 general elections and announced key measures to ensure compliance.

The Chief Election Commissioner, Raja Shahbaz Khan, has imposed a complete ban on wall chalking in public places across the region, declaring it a clear violation of election rules.

On the instructions of the Chief Election Commissioner, all returning officers have immediately issued public notices clarifying that wall chalking is a clear violation of the election code of conduct.

According to the announcement, strict legal action will be taken against candidates or their supporters found to be involved in this activity.

The Election Commission has directed all candidates to remove all illegal writings and wall chalking within two days.

It further stated that failure to comply within the given timeframe will result in action against the concerned candidates in accordance with the law.

The Chief Election Commissioner emphasised that all political parties and candidates must ensure compliance with election rules and regulations to facilitate transparent and peaceful elections.

The Commission has declared all forms of writing and graffiti on roads, bridges, and government buildings strictly prohibited, warning that any violation of the election code of conduct during the campaign will result in strict action.

The circular further states that district monitoring officers have been directed to strictly enforce the ban, and legal proceedings will be initiated against violators under the Election Act 2017. Candidates have also been advised to use lawful and environmentally friendly methods for their election campaigns.
