During the holy month of Ramadan, an important step by the Water Corporation has come forward to strengthen the city’s water supply system.

According to details, the spokesperson of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation stated that in order to stabilize and improve the water supply system in the city during Ramadan, the Water Corporation has taken an important step by deciding to eliminate leakages present in the city’s main water line.

The spokesperson of the Water Corporation said that a leakage had been identified in the main 84-inch diameter water line of Phase One located in Block 19 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, after which it was decided to repair and restore the line.

He stated that to eliminate all the leakages present in the line, repair work will formally begin on Monday at 12 noon. According to the Water Corporation, the total duration of the repair work has been set at 96 hours.

During this period, special and technical teams of the Water Corporation will remain present at the site and carry out the repair work.

For the completion of the repair work, the quantity of water supplied to the city from the Dhabeji Pumping Station will be temporarily reduced.

The spokesperson said that due to the repair work, the city will face a shortage of approximately 200 million gallons of water per day.

However, water supply from Hub, Gharo, and other pumping stations will continue as usual without interruption.

He further stated that Karachi is provided with approximately 650 million gallons of water daily in total, while despite the temporary shortage, the city will continue to receive approximately 450 million gallons of water per day.

Due to the repair work, water supply is likely to be affected in various areas of Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulshan, Jinnah, Chanesar, Saddar, Lyari, and Clifton.

In addition, during the repair period, the Landhi and Sherpao hydrants will also remain temporarily closed.

The spokesperson has appealed to citizens to use water economically and responsibly during the repair work.

After the completion of the project, there will be a significant improvement in Karachi’s water transmission system and a permanent solution to the issue of water leakage will become possible.
