The Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, rejected claims made by US President Donald Trump, saying Venezuela will not become a colony of the US. She also remarked that Venezuela will defend its territorial integrity and natural resources.
According to several media reports, Vice President Rodríguez addressed the country after the US military strike on Venezuela and the arrest of the country’s president, Nicolas Maduro and his wife. She confirmed in her address that President Maduro is currently in the custody of the US and emphasised that Maduro will remain the president of Venezuela.
She asked the people of Venezuela to stay calm and united, adding that the country is ready to face every challenge and will surely defend its sovereignty and natural resources.

The newly elected mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, showed opposition on the move by the US government to capture Venezuela and the arrest of the country’s president and his wife.
Zohran Mamdani wrote on X, “I was briefed this morning on the U.S. military capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, as well as their planned imprisonment in federal custody here in New York City. Unilaterally attacking a sovereign nation is an act of war and a violation of federal and international law.
