DG ISPR questions limited power of Imran Khan as PM

ISLAMABAD: The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) has raised strong questions about the claims of a former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Prime Minister regarding his powers.

He said the founding PTI leader was a highly powerful Prime Minister, yet later claimed that he had no real authority.

According to the DG ISPR, the former Prime Minister was so influential that he declared the Army Chief as the “father of the nation,” a privilege no Pakistani Prime Minister has had since 1947.

He said that Pakistan has only one true father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the visionary leader who created the country. Similarly, he said the nation has only one poet, Allama Iqbal, whose works have guided generations.

The DG ISPR added that the former Prime Minister had attempted to bring in a “new father” for the nation, driven by political motives.

He criticised the leader for running his party like a dictatorship and pursuing personal agendas, including advocating dialogue with terrorists.

He also questioned the role of the then DG ISI, saying that the intelligence chief was used for political purposes at the time.

The DG ISPR said that the misuse of state institutions for personal politics had serious implications for the country.
